چکیده

Two-sided statistical tests and p-values are well defined only when the test statistic in question has a symmetric distribution. A new two-sided p-value called conditional p-value PC is introduced here. It is closely related to the doubled p-value and has an intuitive appeal. Its use is advocated for both continuous and discrete distributions. An important advantage of this p-value is that equivalent 1-sided tests are transformed into PC-equivalent 2-sided tests. It is compared to the widely used doubled and minimum likelihood p-values. Examples include the variance test, the binomial and the Fisher’s exact test. keywords: two-sided tests, Fisher’s exact test, variance test, binomial test, F test, minimum likelihood ∗Statistical Advisory Service, 8 Princes Gardens, Imperial College, London SW7 1NA, UK. Testing a Point Null Hypothesis against One-Sided for Non Regular and Exponential Families: The Reconcilability Condition to P-values and Posterior Probability

In this paper, the reconcilability between the P-value and the posterior probability in testing a point null hypothesis against the one-sided hypothesis is considered. Two essential families, non regular and exponential family of distributions, are studied. It was shown in a non regular family of distributions; in some cases, it is possible to find a prior distribution function under which P-va...

Comparison between Frequentist Test and Bayesian Test to Variance Normal in the Presence of Nuisance Parameter: One-sided and Two-sided Hypothesis

This article is concerned with the comparison P-value and Bayesian measure for the variance of Normal distribution with mean as nuisance paramete. Firstly, the P-value of null hypothesis is compared with the posterior probability when we used a fixed prior distribution and the sample size increases. In second stage the P-value is compared with the lower bound of posterior probability when the ...

The Tail Mean-Variance Model and Extended Efficient Frontier

In portfolio theory, it is well-known that the distributions of stock returns often have non-Gaussian characteristics. Therefore, we need non-symmetric distributions for modeling and accurate analysis of actuarial data. For this purpose and optimal portfolio selection, we use the Tail Mean-Variance (TMV) model, which focuses on the rare risks but high losses and usually happens in the tail of r...

Stratified Median Ranked Set Sampling: Optimum and Proportional Allocations

In this paper, for the Stratified Median Ranked Set Sampling (SMRSS), proposed by Ibrahim et al. (2010), we examine the proportional and optimum sample allocations that are two well-known methods for sample allocation in stratified sampling. We show that the variances of the mean estimators of a symmetric population in SMRSS using optimum and proportional allocations to strata are smaller than ...

The Family of Scale-Mixture of Skew-Normal Distributions and Its Application in Bayesian Nonlinear Regression Models

In previous studies on fitting non-linear regression models with the symmetric structure the normality is usually assumed in the analysis of data. This choice may be inappropriate when the distribution of residual terms is asymmetric. Recently, the family of scale-mixture of skew-normal distributions is the main concern of many researchers. This family includes several skewed and heavy-tailed d...
